DR. ELIJAH AKPAN - CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dr. Elijah Akpan is the Chairman of Anchor Insurance Company Limited and was born into the Akpans family of Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State on February 24, 1960.

He is a Doctor of Pharmacy and a graduate of University of Southern California (USC) Los Angeles, California, USA and El Camino College, Torrance, USA where he completed his Post graduate and undergraduate studies respectively. He is a licensed and registered Pharmacist with the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy, Carson City, Nevada, USA.

An erudite scholar, he got accredited by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy (CEAP), National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABPA) all in 1996 and America Society of Healthcare Accreditation and Compliance (NHAC).

Dr. Elijah started out as a Community Pharmacy Manager at the Sav-On Drug Stores, Boulder City, Nevada, USA in 1994 and joined University Medical Centre of Las Vegas (UMC) in 1996 as a Clinical Pharmacist. He has since grown into a worthy captain of many industries.

He is a veteran and astute professional who has chaired several organisation’s boards within and outside the shores of Nigeria. He is the Chairman/CEO of Tropicana Group of Companies, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA which deals in commodity wholesales and distribution of Rice, Flours and Fertilizers to the Middle Eastern Countries. He is also the Chairman/CEO of Tropicana Aluminium Manufacturing Co. Limited, Nigeria; which deals in manufacturing and corrugation of Aluminium Roofing sheets, windows, frames and doors, manufacturing of automobile engines and spare parts amongst several other interests.

Dr. Elijah is the Chairman/CEO of Tropicana International School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and the Chairman/CEO of PowerBling Nigeria Limited. He is the Executive Vice President of SuNergy Enterprises, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA where he procured contracts worth $1.046Billion USD, $50Million USD and $25Million USD from governments of Ethiopia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria respectively.

Dr. Elijah is currently the Executive Chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP).

In his bid to contribute to the development of his profession, people and society at large, Dr. Elijah Akpan is either a Chairman/President, Board member or member of about 15 different organisations.

A religious man and lover of books, research, music, soccer, travelling and business development, Dr Elijah is the Co-Founder/General Overseer of the International Ministry of Salvation and Praise and the Healing House Ministries Inc. with over 30years of active ministry. He has established and partnered with five (5) branches in United States, Nigeria, Belize, Kenya and Nepal.

Mr. Augustine is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Anchor Insurance Company Limited. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director, he was the Executive Director, Business Development and Marketing overseeing the entire marketing chains of the company.

Augustine started his working career with Erikana Nigeria Limited in 2000 to 2001 as a Marketing Officer engaged in the sales of the company’s products. Thereafter, he moved to Alliance & General Insurance Company Limited where he served in various capacities from 2001 to 2004 which he joined as an Executive and to rose to the position of Branch Manager due to his productive contributions to the growth of the company with his responsibilities covering clientele servicing, special risk marketing with emphasis on oil & gas, corporate and product development and general administration of the branch.

In 2004 he moved to Capital Express General Insurance Company Limited as a Manager to develop the Public Sector, Oil & Gas segment by identifying and developing strategies to deepen the Company’s market share.

He left the services of Capital Express in 2006 to start his business sojourn with Standard Alliance Insurance Company Plc from November 2006. Here, he garnered extensive experience and created a niche for himself in the market. Augustine started as Deputy Manager/Group Head; Public Sector saddled with the responsibility of starting and developing the Public Sector Group to enviable level and identifying business opportunities for the company and was promoted to Manager Public Sector, Oil & Gas & Telecoms in 2007.

In the same year 2007, he was again upgraded to Principal Manager/Divisional Head, Public Sector, Energy and Technical due to his knack for success and achieving set targets with the added function of formulating corporate and product developments.

In 2008, he was elevated to Assistant General Manager/Divisional Head, Public Sector, Energy & Telecoms, and rose to the position of General Manager/Divisional Head, North & South-West regions overseeing Public Sector, Energy, technical and Emerging Markets as a result of his outstanding results and expansion of these portfolios. He left the service of the company in December 2016 to join Anchor Insurance Company Limited as Executive Director, Business Development and Marketing.

Augustine is a graduate of Delta State University, Abraka and University of Ado -Ekiti, Ado-Ekiti where he obtained B.Sc (Economics) and MBA (Business Administration) respectively. He is awaiting his formal graduation for a Doctorate Degree in Business Management from University of Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom.

He is a member of several professional associations amongst which are Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS); and has attended courses and seminars locally and overseas amongst which are Executive Management course at the Lagos Business School and Management Course for CEOs at South African Academy of Learning, Pretoria. He is happily married with children.

Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob obtained his Bachelor of Science in Management Studies in the First-Class Division from the University of Calabar in 1981 and became an Associate of The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA) in 1985.

He started his now 32-year-old professional career as a Partner with Arthur Anderson & Co. from 1982 to 1995 after which he moved to RAITAS CONSULTING as an Executive Director heading its core value training and consultancy unit for 6 years. From 1999 to 2007, he was the Chairman of the Privatization Committee of Akwa Ibom Investment and Industrial Promotion Council (AKIIPOC) where he successfully handled the privatization of Champion Breweries, Plasto Crown Limited, Qua River Hotel, Akwa Feeds Limited, Akwa Hatcheries Limited and Abuja Guest Suites.

Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob was the President of Haggai Business School and Managing Partner at Imo-Abasi Jacob & Co. Chartered Accountants. He served as Chairman of Rosimo Associates Limited. He was the Chairman of Akwa Savings and Loans Limited (Mortgage Bankers), a Director at Ibom Power Company Limited and he was on the faculty of the Money Market Association of Nigeria and Center for Law and Development Studies among many others.

He is presently the Executive Director (Operations) at Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation in charge of Entrepreneurship & Business Development, Project Implementation & Supervision; and Investment Promotion & Appraisal.

A widely exposed and experience hand, he is a recipient of Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. (Nig.) award for one of the best graduating students Management Studies (1981) and Best Performing Group Leader – Haggai Institute, Singapore (2005).

Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob loves reading, travelling, teaching and Lawn tennis; he has written and published several books amongst which are: Managing Your Day, Talents Trading – Financial Planning Model, The Three silent days and Nights, Sex and The Priesthood. He has various articles in journals and several presentations at seminars and workshops in Nigeria and abroad. Mr. Imo-Abasi is also a columnist in Faith @ Work in Lifeway Magazine.

Prof. Osita Ogbu obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1979, he obtained M.A. Economics and Ph.D. Economics in 1984 and 1988 respectively from the Howard University Washington DC, USA and in 2009 he attended the prestigious Harvard University Business School, Boston, USA.

He is an economist with a broad range of skills, strong and practical understanding and knowledge of developmental and social issues matched with strong political savvy. His areas of competence and interest include: Trade & Finance, Agricultural Economics, Science & Technology Policy, Political Economy, Economics of Social Sector (Education & Health), Governance, Economics and Politics of Regional Integration; with over 22 years of professional experience in research, research management, institution building, policy advice and executive leadership.

In 1980 after graduating from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a young Osita Ogbu joined Lever Brothers (Nig.) Limited (a subsidiary of Unilever International) as a Management Trainee and barely a year later, in 1981 he was promoted to the position of District Sales Manager, he left Lever Brothers in 1982.

Prof. Osita Ogbu was a Research Fellow/Teaching Assistant at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Howard University, Washington, D.C between 1985 and 1987 while also working part-time as a research affiliate at the Economic Analysis Division of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Washington, D.C.

He won one of the few very competitive summer internship positions offered to post-graduate students in economics from all over the world as Summer Assistant at The Economic Policy Division (Country Analysis) of The World Bank in 1986 and from May to December 1987, he was a Research Affiliate at the Institute of urban Affairs and Research at Howard University, Washington, D.C.

As a widely-traveled technocrat, Pro. Osita Ogbu has work experiences in over 40 countries cutting across Africa, Europe, South America, Asia, United Kingdom and the United States of America amongst others.

From 1987 to 1991, he worked as Consultant Research Economist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. He later joined the International Research Centre, Canada as a Program Officer in 1991, he rose to the position of Senior Program Officer a year later, he left IRC in 1995.

For his versatility and world-wide experience, Prof. Osita Ogbu was appointed as the Economic Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and CEO/Minister National Planning Commission. He is the Chairman of the governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Social and economic Research (NISER). He is a visiting Professor of economics at The University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Managing Director/CEO of the African Development Solutions International (ADSI).

Professor Osita Ogbu has written and presented numerous papers at various fora and contributed to about 33 books/publications on topics including Trade & International Economics, Technology Policy, Structural Adjustment and Sectoral Response (Agriculture, Social Sector and Others).

Mr. Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong was born in Awa Iman, Onna L.G.A of Akwa Ibom State on February 26th 1952.

He is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ACA). He worked as an External Auditor at PEAT MARWICK now KPMG and later joined the defunct Savannah Bank Nigeria Plc, Lagos, as Head Office Accountant. Thereafter, he later then joined First City Merchant Bank Plc as Group Accountant.

Mr. Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong was promoted to the post of Business Centre Manager West at First Aluminum Plc as a reward to his hard work and success after joining the establishment as the Chief Accountant in 1987. He was the first Nigerian to occupy the position of Business Centre Manager West at First Aluminum Plc. This portfolio had a turnover of about 160 million naira, operating as an independent unit handling sales, operation and accounting with a staff strength of 200 resourceful men and women.

He was co-promoter of Chartered Aluminum System Limited where he held the position of Executive Director/General Manager West/Abuja with the responsibility of driving the marketing efforts of the company achieving a turnover of about 700 million naira before his exit from the company.

A very resourceful and business oriented fellow, Mr. Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong is presently the Managing Director/CEO of Anituson Enterprises Nigeria Limited, ENID Production and Construction Limited and Chairman of ENID Laboratories Limited which each of the companies recording an annual turnover of 100 million naira.

As a promoter tradition and his people, Mr. Ukpong Ekwere Ukpong has at different times held the position of President of Awa Development Association Lagos Branch, Awa Clan Development Association Lagos Branch, Onna Development Association, Lagos Branch.

DR. CHRISTOPHER ATTAH - DIRECTOR

Mr. Christopher Attah was born into the notable Attah family of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria on April 3, 1972. He had his post-primary school education at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria where he obtained his GCE in 1987 before proceeding to Ackworth School, W. Yorks to secure his ‘A’ levels in 1990.

He obtained his LLB. from the University of Wolverhampton in England in 1994 and BL. from Nigerian Law School in 1996.

Young Christopher started his legal professional career with Paul Usoro & Co. from 1996 to 1997 as Head of South-South/South-East division of the firm with the responsibility to handle litigation on clients’ behalf, providing legal opinions on various issues, drafting of documentation and provision of secretarial services.

Mr. Christopher Attah was then to become a pioneer staff of Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria Limited when he joined the company in 1997. He contributed to the setting up of the on-site office and preparing the reporting systems.

For his versatility, his responsibilities were extended to attending Management meetings and providing legal opinions on issues ranging from project contract agreements, taxation, gas and product sales agreement, shipping, employment matters and the tripartite shareholding agreement.

He is presently a Partner in The Zenith Law Firm with 2 other legal luminaries. Christopher has brought to bear his wealth of knowledge and skilled garnered from previous work experience specialising in Corporate & Commercial, Capital Market, Energy, Regulatory & Compliance, Banking & Finance, Taxation and Project & Construction of the firm.

For his entrepreneurship drives and business acumen, Mr. Christopher Attah sits as Director in reputable companies such as Meristem Securities Limited, Unitech Drilling Company Limited, Alvita Mineral Ventures Limited and Brownstone C.C.(PTY) Limited SA.

Mr. Christopher Attah is a member of the Nigerian Capital Markets Solicitors Association, Nigeria Gas Association, Vision 20: 2020 Judiciary Committee and Business Support Group, and Emerging Markets Private Equity Association.

He has to his credit as a Co-author, “Nigeria: The Appetite for Infrastructure Development” in the Africa Report for Project Finance International, published by Thompson Reuters Q1 2010.
